NEWS 7th Edition Now Available! The latest edition of A First Look at Communications Theory is available. To preview the changes, see the 7th Edition Contents or a list of Changes in the 7th Edition (both are PDF documents requiring Adobe Acrobat Reader). Website update to accompany Seventh Edition With the new edition available, the website will be updated (both in content and design). We are aiming to have it ready by the end of May. Except for the addition of the Conversations videos, which are listed by 7th Edition chapter, everything else on the site is still organized for the 6th Edition. Some of the changes in the new edition (see document above) may shift a few chapter numbers or delete chapters (which will then move to the archives). If you're already using a copy of the new edition, you may find it easier to locate some resources by theory instead of chapter. Use the Contents option above and select Theories or Theorists instead of Table of Contents. If you have suggestions for the redesign of the website, please submit them to the webmaster. Thank you! Videos Now Available Here Videos from the "Conversations with Theorists" CD are now available here on the website. Links are provided on the VIDEOS page. Instructor Resource CD available To obtain a copy of the Instructor's Resource CD-ROM, please contact your local McGraw-Hill sales representative, visit McGraw-Hill at www.mhhe.com, or call customer service at 800-338-3987. In Canada, please call 800-565-5758. This site is designed primarily as a companion to A First Look at Communication Theory by Em Griffin and the Instructor's Manual. On the left side of the site are links to resource materials for the texts and a description of Conversations with Communication Theorists, a video of interviews that Em conducted with the authors of a number of theories featured in the book. At the top of the site are links to the theories as well as links to theories in the archives of past editions. Details are provided for the newest edition (#6, 2005) and the previous edition (#5, 2002). Select which edition you are using before viewing other options. The search at the top left of the site is an easy way to find information in the current edition, Instructor's Manual, archives and the FAQs. |

| How to use the site | |
| How can I see the Legend when I go to the Text Compare table? It's difficult to remember the author names associated with the initials in the column headers. | |
| There are two options:
First, when you are looking at the test comparison table, you can see the text names as you move the cursor over the initials in the column header. Second, you can use the Back button on your browser to go back to the legend page. Then, use the Forward button to return to the place you were at in the comparison table. (This technique also works at other places in the site, such as moving between the Instructor's Manual contents and specific chapters). Design philosophy: Because the text comparison table is large and we have to anticipate a wide range of monitor sizes and browser types we tried to make it compatible for as many users as possible. So, we purposely avoided the use of floating windows because they require browsers with Java capability and monitors large enough so the legend window would not cover up the table itself. |
